A shy teacher and a chatty driver from a small village drive to town on a mission by the mayor to bring back a computer for his offices. But things don’t end up like they’re supposed to. Porumboiu’s second short film won the 2nd prize at both the Cinéfondation and Karlovy Vary, before screening at the 10th edition of TISFF. Porumboiu later broke out alongside the rest of the Romanian New-Wave in mid 2000, showcasing his unique brand of dry humor, political commentary and use of a cinematic language. He is a mainstay at Cannes, where his first film “12:08 East of Bucharest” won the Camera d’Or (Best Debut Film prize).
